Pregnant patients are assessed differently from other patients. We do not take X-rays. History is a big part of the process, and palpation becomes even more important given the patient’s condition. Treatment is adjusted based on the stage of pregnancy. Patients are positioned face up rather than on their stomachs. We use pregnancy-appropriate adjustments, soft tissue work including round ligament treatment, and massage therapy. We also use Webster’s technique for breech positioning. Dr. Phillip Vournazos, D.C., has personally had success four out of four times using this technique to reposition babies who were positioned for a breech birth. Diagnosing pediatric patients depends on the age of the child. We do not use imaging due to radiation exposure unless there is an absolute fracture. For most cases, diagnosis is history-based. For infants, it is primarily palpation to identify subluxations and issues of the spine or joints. Treatment for infants and newborns uses mobilization rather than standard cavitation adjustments, since their joints are not fully solidified. For teenagers, treatment is more similar to standard chiropractic adjustments. We have treated newborns with latching difficulties, infants with GERD and colic, and children with sports-related injuries using these age-appropriate approaches. Wellness care is about maintaining what we worked to fix. By the time you finish your treatment plan, you will understand your body, when to ice, when to stretch, what to avoid, and how to keep your spine from going back to where it started. Dr. Phillip believes that the best version of you is something we can actively work toward, not just something that happens on its own. Read more about Chiropractic Wellness & Prevention Care

If you have a disc issue, this is one of the most effective tools we have. Spinal decompression works by gently tractioning the spine to pull fluid back into compressed discs and allow them to reabsorb. It takes more than one session because the soft tissues need time to stretch and respond. Most patients see the biggest improvement between 15 to 20 treatments as the discs gradually reabsorb and the surrounding tissues begin to heal. If you have been told surgery is your only option, it may be worth exploring this first. Read more about Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy

The chiropractic adjustment is at the core of everything we do. When the spine is misaligned, it puts pressure on discs and nerves, and that pressure does not resolve on its own. The adjustment works by realigning the spine’s biomechanics, reducing pressure on the affected area, and providing the body with the right conditions to begin healing. Dr. Phillip uses two techniques, diversified chiropractic technique and an applied kinesiology-based approach, and has been proficient in both for nearly a decade.

Shockwave therapy targets damaged tissue and stimulates the body to repair it. Once the underlying biomechanical issue is corrected, a shockwave is applied to the affected area to help bone, soft tissue, and nerve tissue regenerate. At California Oaks Chiropractic, Dr. Phillip uses focal wave shockwave technology and has applied it across a range of conditions, including disc injuries, torn tendons, knee degeneration, and post-surgery recovery.
